LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Canadian pop-R&B singer Justin Bieber dominated the 38th annual American Music Awards, winning a total of four awards including the all-important Artist of the Year.
Justin Bieber, 16, a best-selling rapper who has been under the limelight of the popular music scene over the past two years, was chosen as the Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Nominated for four awards, the handsome, adolesent-voiced Canadian teenage boy became the top winner at the event with his latest album "My World 2.0."
Eminem was vying for a total of five American Music Awards, along with country trio Lady Antebellum. Eminem won for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Album "Recovery." Different from his productions in early years, the album is more self-orientated and inward-looking, lacking the topic which caters to the young fans. The change has in turn prevented the singer from winning over large number of fans, forming a stark contrast with Bieber.
Three singers and a group excelled at the country categories. Brad Paisley won the favorite male artist award, a trophy he also carried home in 2008. Taylor Swift, who was last year's big winner with five awards, for favorite female artist. The trio Lady Antebellum won in favorite band, duo or group category.
Lady Gaga, who is overwhelmingly popular with the fans, was chosen Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. The Black Eyes Peas, an East Los Angeles alternative hip-hop group took home Favorite Pop Rock Band, Duo or Group.
In Soul/R&B category, Usher was chosen Favorite Male Artist and Rihanna Favorite Female Artist. Usher, who also won for Favorite Album for "Raymond v. Raymond," prevailed as he is supported by a first-grade production team, opportune ideas and his prominence among the fans.
For Favorite Soundtrack, "Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers" is crowned with the award.
The winners at the annual American Music Awards were chosen by fans online. The award ceremony, held at the Nokia Theater at Los Angeles on Sunday night, was broadcast by ABC live.
