justin bieber extended his popularity to the silver screen

Justin Bieber, the teenage pop sensation, extended his popularity to the silver screen on Valentine’s Day weekend with his documentary film raking in $30.3 million.
But “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” was just beaten by the thinnest of margins by “Just Go With It” starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. The romantic comedy flick earned $31 million for its weekend debut, Sony Pictures said Sunday.
Box-office results for the whole weekend will not be available until Monday and Justin Bieber might still come out on top.
The opening of Bieber’s film was similar to the $31.1 million earned by “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds.” That remains the best opening for a concert documentary ever.
Third-ranked this weekend was “Gnomeo & Juliet” the latest animated film from Disney. It earned $25.5 million. Roman battle film “The Eagle” was fourth with $8.6 million.
Movie industry monitor Hollywood.com said box-office earnings for the Valentine’s Day weekend amounted to $149 million, down 27 percent for the same period last year.
Adam Sandler extended his long streak of movie hits with “Just Go With It” while teenagers who caught the so-called Bieber fever were responsible for the strong showing of the singer’s film.
“Just Go With It” featuring Hollywood sweetheart Jennifer Aniston and funny man Adam Sandler has earned mixed reviews so far. The two play friends masquerading as partners undergoing divorce.
Paramount Pictures said “Never Say Never” has surpassed expectations and critics have been relatively kinder to the concert film of Justin Bieber.
